26th May 2004

I have put up a new version of the eBox skin, complete with local and global actions set up. You can download it from the skins page.

20th May 2004

eboxy 0.4.1 is out. Most notably it adds joystick support and global actions, and several bugs were fixed.

19th April 2004

It gives me great pleasure to announce that after nearly a year in the making, eboxy 0.4.0 is out! Go to the download page to grab your copy. Also, I have an added bonus - I threw together a "remote control" plugin for sending actions to eboxy either locally or remotely over a network (using UDP). This is available from the plugins page, along with the new MySQL plugin and slightly updated versions of all the other plugins. Enjoy, and don't hesitate to send in any feedback :)

31st March 2004

A pre-release version of eboxy 0.4.0 has been released. Head on over to the forum for the announcement.

7th February, 2004

Hot on the heels of yesterday's new forums, I have replaced the Sourceforge trackers with a proper issue tracker which uses Mantis. Please report any bugs you find.

6th February, 2004

There's a new phpBB2-based discussion forum up for eboxy here. I have disabled the old Sourceforge forums. Feel free to make a posting :)

eboxy 0.3.9 is out - thanks to Nick Adams who assisted in testing and debugging. This is mainly a bugfix release and will hopefully be the last one before 0.4.0. The most important fix is that you no longer have to perform any special steps when installing SDL_gui - just install it as normal and eboxy will build fine.

4th December, 2003

eboxy 0.3.8 was just released, which fixes a few minor bugs (special thanks to Brian Childs who submitted a couple of patches). I also did some investigation into another bug I found while testing eboxy on Red Hat 9.0 - details here. Unfortunately it's not really solveable without removing SDL_gui, which will be happening in 0.4.0.

Speaking of which, I have been hard at work on the eboxy 0.4.0 development branch. There aren't too many exciting outward changes just yet, but it is mostly working to the level that 0.3.8 is now, and there have been a lot of changes under the hood (the core is now completely clean of SDL/SDL_gui code, although the build process still expects it to be available and I haven't started building another interface plugin yet). I hope to be able to release a snapshot of 0.4.0 soon once a few more features have made it in. As always anyone who is really keen can grab the devel-0-4-0 branch from CVS. Feel free to email me your experiences if you do so.

1st October, 2003

Well it's been pretty quiet around here for a while now. I have been doing some work on eboxy, mainly on separating SDL_gui specific code from the generic code and trying to build an "interface plugin" system that will hopefully let you switch between different UI systems without recompiling. This involves a lot of work, and I'm not quite sure if it's going to work out yet. I've also been working with William Stotts to develop a MySQL plugin and a way to display data with it (in order to have a TV programme guide) as well as a few other bits and pieces.

I finally got around to building some RPMs for SDL_gui under Red Hat 9, which can be downloaded here. Hopefully this will make it easier to set up on RPM-based distributions, as the old RPMs were built for Red Hat 7.x and don't work with newer versions. There is a fixed-up source RPM there as well if you are using another RPM-based distro that isn't compatible with RH9.

Welcome to the new eboxy site. Hopefully this is a bit easier to handle than all the info crunched into one page. A few plugins are now available for download, and things should generally be easier to access.
